Problem:

Can StarTeam Server be started as a Windows Service from a command line?

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2005 - 2008 R2
  • Product Component: Server
  • Platform/OS Version: Microsoft Windows

To run StarTeam server configuration as service create a batch file. This batch file can be configured to be executed during Windows starting up. To create the batch file put the following code into a text editor then save it with a .bat extension. Please adjust the patch to StarTeam accordingly for your environment. Please also replace Config1 with the name of your configuration.

Content of the batch file:
-----------------------------------
cd "C:\Program Files\Borland\StarTeam Server 2008 R2"

echo %time%
StarTeamServer.exe -start "StarTeam Server - Config1" -svc
echo %time%

cd "c:\"
-----------------------------------

Instructions on how to call the batch file during windows startup:

  1. Edit the batch file according to the location of your StarTeam Server.
  2. Using Windows Scheduler, add a scheduled task and call the batch file.
  3. Go to START | PROGRAMS | ACCESSORIES | SYSTEM TOOLS | SCHEDULED TASKS
  4. Click "Add Scheduled Tasks" and point it to your batch file
  5. For "Perform this task", chose "When my computer starts"
  6. Click Next, and then click Finish after you verify the choices that you have made.

When the machine starts, the batch file will run and the StarTeam service will be started. If you have more than one server configuration that has to be started up, include all these configurations in the order you want the configurations to start.
