Problem:

When Running Datamart Extractor, What Privileges Does An Oracle Schema User Need

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2006
  • Product Component: Datamart Extractor
  • Platform/OS Version: All Supported OS

Definitions:

Datamart Schema User - the Schema User that corresponds to the user account that will be used by the Datamart Extractor to save data into the Extractor"s target Schema.

StarTeam Schema User - the Schema User that corresponds to the user account that is used by the StarTeam Server process to connect to an Oracle Schema and add, edit, and delete information in the database.

Description:

The exact privileges needed for a Datamart Schema User are not discussed in the Datamart User"s Guide. The purpose of this Guide is to tell you how to configure your Datamart Schema User for use with the Datamart Extractor tool.

Answer/Solution:

The privileges needed by the StarTeam Schema User for StarTeam 2006 Server are (from the 2006 Install Guide page 98):

  • create procedure
  • create sequence
  • create session
  • create table
  • create trigger
  • create type
  • create view
  • unlimited tablespace

This is simply too much for a Datamart Schema User. If you want to limit the datamart user to the minimal set of privileges, your datamart schema user only needs #4 and #8.

  • create table
  • unlimited tablespace
