Problem:

We have deployed large scale StarTeam configuration with MPX. What is the recommended sequence to shut down and bring up various components for maintenance?

Resolution:

The following steps are recommended for StarTeam Server maintenance:

1. Plan for down time.
2. Inform users to log out from the client during system down time.
3. Shut down various StarTeam components. (Please refer to the detailed sequence below)
4. Perform necessary maintenance tasks.
5. Bring up various StarTeam components. (Please refer to the detailed sequence below)
6. Inform users that the system is up.

The following describes the detailed sequence to bring down various StarTeam components:

1. Bring down all the cache agents.
2. Bring down StarTeam Server.
3. Bring down all the Message Brokers in the following sequence:
- All remote Message Brokers,
- All backup Message Brokers,
- Primary Message Broker.
4. Bring down the database server.

The following describes the detailed sequence to bring up various StarTeam components:

1. Bring up the database server.
2. Bring up the Message Brokers in the following sequence:
- Primary Message Broker,
- All backup Message Brokers,
- All remote Message Brokers.
3. Bring up StarTeam server. Check the server log to confirm no issue logging appears during server start up.
4. Bring up all the cache agents.
