How to perform a Vault Conversion needed for StarTeam 2006

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2005 R2 (applicable to 2005 also)
  • Product Component: Server
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows (All versions)

Description:

When performing an upgrade, one must convert their Vault from Native 1 to Native 2 architecture. This step is MANDATORY during the 2006 upgrade process. Here is the best way to perform the vault upgrade.

Answer/Solution:

There are some basic steps to performing the Vault upgrade:

  1. Create a new Hive
    1. Open Hive Manager and Push "New"
    2. Select the Archive and Cache folders where the native 2 vaults will be stored. To prevent confusion, typically set folders in the same repository folder as Native1, only name them Archive_Native2 and Cache_Native2.
  2. Push the Start Conversion button on the Server Administration or Server Tools GUI. You will be prompted to confirm the conversion. It is advised to check the box to keep the Native I files in case of error. Check the box to keep your native 1 files, and push OK. Startup the Server configuration and the upgrade will start.
  3. Depending on the size of your Vault, this process could take some time. Progress is logged in a file called "GoNativeII.log" found in the root repository path (or alternate log output path if specified).
  4. Confirm that there were no errors in the server log and open the StarTeam Client. Confirm that files check-out and that nothing appears to be amiss.
  5. Contact Support if you have any questions or see errors in your log files.
