Problem:

Logging into StarTeam 2005R2 server from CPC/Win32 client and Web Edition client on same machine uses 2 concurrent licenses

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2005 R2
  • Product Component: Windows/CPC/Web Edition Client
  • Platform/OS Version: All

Description:

User logs into StarTeam server using CPC or Windows client, this uses one concurrent license. User logs into server using the same username and password with a Web Edition client, this uses an additional concurrent license.

Answer:

The additional license is used because the WorkstationID for the CPC or Windows client does not match the WorkstationID of the web client. Go to ConnectionManager.ini file (C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Borland\StarTeam on Windows machine). Copy WorkstationID value in this file. Connect to the server using a web client. At the screen that lists the available connections, select the "Workstation Options..." link underneath the box. You should be able to notice that the StarTeam Workstation ID here differs from the one that you found in the .ini file. Select the "Advanced" button beside this value. Paste the workstation id you copied from the .ini file earlier and click ok.
