Unable to download some of the CR attachments of the Web Edition

Why can I not open or download certain files attached to a Change Request with Internet Explorer? For example, a file with non-standard extentions (dcm, *.DIMCOM, etc.) cannot be accessed.


Solution for IIS 6.0 webserver version:

The step-by-step instruction given below is for IIS 6.0 on Windows 2003 platform.

Here is the IIS configuration change we made to enable the download of the DICOM file:

1. Open IIS Service manager console.
2. Click on the Web Service extension.
3. Click on Add new Web service extension.
4. Enter the extension name and the Executable name. ( for e.g. Executable/tool called MRIcro can be used to view .DIMCOM files).
5. Save the changes.
6. Stop/restart IIS. (Important step).

Solution for IIS 5.x webserver version:

As suggested above for IIS version 6.0, similarly the setting of IIS Web Server 5.x need to be configured too. But in IIS 5.x, the properties in a file called UrlScan.ini need to be modified to allow the non-standard extention files.

UrlScan is a security tool that restricts the types of HTTP requests that Internet Information Services (IIS) will process. By blocking specific HTTP requests, the UrlScan security tool helps prevent potentially harmful requests from reaching the server. Hence, change the setting (that is mapping file handlers) such that it will allow the DIMCOM and other related files to be served by the web server.
