Problem:

What causes the error "The item you have attempted to edit is not editable by you" when using a custom form?

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2006-2009
  • Product Component: CPC
  • Platform/OS Version: ALL

This error occurs if the user who is using the custom form is not on the Authorized List for a particular step in the custom workflow. For example, if a user is attempting to create a new Change Request but is not added to the Authorized List for the "New" step then they will not be able to even launch the Change Request form since the first step would be the "New" step. They will instead be presented with this error. In order to resolve this:

  1. Open Workflow Designer
  2. Load your custom workflow
  3. Choose the step that the user is experiencing the error on
  4. Click the Participants tab
  5. Add the user or group to the Authorized List.
  6. Click OK
  7. Save the changes

The user will need to log out and then log in again to the StarTeam Client in order for the changes to take effect.
