Problem:

StarTeam 6.0: Getting "java.lang.outOfMemoryError" when trying to launch the Cross-Platform Client

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 6.0
  • Product Component: Cross-Platform Client
  • Platform/OS Version: All
  • JDK/Compiler Version: 1.4.2_01

Description:

When users accessing cross-platform client, they get error java.lang.outOfMemoryError or the client is really slow.

Answer/Solution:

The java.lang.OutOfMemoryError indicates that the javaVM does not have the memory allocated that it actually needs. You can allocate additional memory to it by increasing the default heap-size -Xmx256m to -Xmx512m or any larger/appropriate number. You can do that by going to your /bin/StarTeamCP.lax file. Change the -Xmx256m to -Xmx512m in the following line.

lax.nl.java.option.additional=-Xmx256m -Djava.library.path="/home//Borland/StarTeam/StarTeamCP/lib"
