Problem:

Why do I get "The attempted operation was not completed. The folder is marked read-only and cannot be changed from this view" when trying to add a new item?

Resolution:

  • Product Component: Client
  • Platform/OS Version: All



This issue occurs when the folder is in a read-only state. (The revision has been frozen).

Attempted operation was not completed

In order to remove it from the read-only state, open the view where you are seeing this issue using StarTeam Client.

From the menu bar, select FOLDER | ADVANCED | BEHAVIOR…

On the ‘Modify’ tab, you will see that the "Branch on Change" option is not selected.

In addition, the ‘Configuration’ tab will have "Revision as of" selected. This date signifies when this folder was frozen (made read-only). If you make the configuration floating, you will be able to add new items.

An alternative is to enable the "Branch on Change" option under the ‘Modify’ tab, any new items will belong to a new revision. This may not work for the root folder.
