After starting the StarTeam Server the following error message is shown in the log:

38 00000004 2014-07-17 09:37:15 Exception thrown from Unknown: Class = SA_DBMS_API_Error, Code = 102(0x00000066)
Msg = Incorrect syntax near ')'.
[Function Name] = CStDatabase::InstallStoredProc
39 00000004 2014-07-17 09:37:15 Exception thrown from Unknown: Class = SA_DBMS_API_Error, Code = 102(0x00000066)
Msg = Incorrect syntax near ')'.
[Function Name] = CStDatabase::InstallStoredProc
[Stored procedure path] = D:\Program Files\Borland\StarTeam Server 14.2 HF3\DBScripts\SqlServer_Scripts\Scheduled_Scripts\starteam_sqlserver_create_index_maintenance_script.sql

This is caused by the StarTeam database being set to SQL 2000 compatibility mode.

To resolve:

  1. Shut down the StarTeam Server application
  2. Open SQL Server Management Studio and connect to the StarTeam database instance as SA
  3. Right click the StarTeam database and click Properties
  4. Select the "Options" page in the left pane
  5. The compatibility level will be set to "SQL Server 2000 (80)

  6. Select the highest level available, such as SQL Server 2005 or 2008.
  7. Click OK
  8. Start the StarTeam server

The server should now start without the error.
