Problem:

StarTeam server 5.2 does not start.

Resolution:

Problem

After a reasonable wait, the StarTeam server is not starting and does not error out.

The last record in the server log indicates that all components have been loaded but it does not pass that point. Task Manager indicates that the server is still trying to start.

Server log looks like this:

The next step of the startup process is to load the ViewMember table and if the server stops at this point and would not start, the problem may be due to the ViewMember table reaching 4 million records.

Workaround

The fix to this problem is in patch #4 for the StarTeam 5.2.196 server. Once the patch is applied, there will be no problem loading the ViewMember table that has more than 4 million records. Please apply the latest patch for StarTeam 5.2 (currently patch #28) since all patch releases are cumulative. Please also note that this problem does not exist in later versions of StarTeam.
