The error indicates that the server is busy and would usually be thrown when someone may be using the field to which you are trying to add values. The best way to avoid this error when performing this operation is to only add values to fields when no one (or as few users as possible, because some organizations have worldwide operations and there are always some users somewhere logged into the server) is using the server. This problem is not an issue in 2006 because of the addition of transactional commands in that version.
