Resolution:

Description:

When a user tries to use the Compare Utility in Visual Studio, "Unable to execute the specified comparison utility" error appears.

Answer/Solution:

In the Visual Studio Integration Installer, there is a step to specify the location of File Compare Merge. If this is not the standard location (C:\Program Files\Borland\File Compare Merge) or this tool was not installed along with the Visual Studio integration, the Integration will not properly open a file compare session. To resolve this issue, it is necessary to uninstall the Integration and reinstall it. During the install process, be sure to correctly specify the location of the File Compare Merge tool on your system (the CPC install directory is valid because it contains the FCM executable). The error should no longer occur.
