Problem:

StarTeam upgrade fails on Windows 2003

Resolution:

Information in this Brief applies to:

  • StarTeam 4.x, 5.x, 6.x
  • Windows 2003

Overview

The versions of StarTeam that officially support Windows 2003 are StarTeam 5.4, 6.0 and future releases. When upgrading StarTeam from StarTeam 4.2 or 5.1, to a later version (i.e StarTeam 5.4, StarTeam 6.0), the upgrade should not be performed on a server running Windows 2003. If you are currently running StarTeam 5.2 or StarTeam 5.3 and wish to upgrade to a later version, the upgrade will run on Windows 2003 but other utilities, such as the migrate, purge, verify utilities may not run properly on Windows 2003. Below are our recommended upgrade paths.

Scenario 1: Upgrading from 4.2 SP3 to 5.4

The recommended upgrade path is from 4.2 SP3 to 5.2 SP1 to 5.4. We recommend the upgrade process to not be performed on a Windows 2003 server.

Scenario 2: Upgrading from 4.2.SP3 to 6.0

The recommended upgrade path is from 4.2 SP3 to 5.2 SP1 to 6.0. We recommend the upgrade to not be performed on a Windows 2003 server. You may move the StarTeam 6.0 repository to a Windows 2003 machine after the upgrade process.

Scenario 3: Upgrading from 5.2/5.3/5.4 to 6.0

You can upgrade directly to StarTeam 6.0 from these versions. If the server is already running Windows 2003, you may upgrade on the same machine.
