Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2006, 2006 R2, 2008
  • Product Component: CPC
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows XP

Description:
When checking out files using Check Out All to an alternate path, the files are being saved to the alternate path but not in the child folders. All the files are being checked out to the root alternate working folder.

Answer/Solution:
This is how "check out all" and alternate working folder works if you use the Advanced button in the "check out all" dialog. The alternate working folder in the Advanced section is telling the client that you want ALL the files to go to that one folder. It does not create or use the child folder working paths, but overrides all working folder information for every folder in the project.

In order to check out all items to an alternate folder path and retain the basic folder structure in the project/view, you will need to use the Alternate Working Folder option in View --> Properties. Once you set this, however, you need to know that it will check out to the alternate path every time until you change it back to the default working path. It will also persist from session to session.

It is, however, not global, so other users will not try to check out to the alternate path. They will continue to check out to the default path.
