Problem:

Why do I have VSS_Hive & PVCS_Hive folders within my default Hive folder?

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: All versions prior to 2006
  • Product Component: Hives
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows

Question:

Why do I have folders called ?VSS_Hive? and ?PVCS_Hive? created when creating a StarTeam database?

Answer:

VSS_Hive and PVCS_Hive folders are created to store special hives and always created by StarTeam Server if the Visual SourceSafe (VSS) or PVCS tools are found on the computer where StarTeam Server is installed. They are created in case you have wrapped projects or plan to wrap projects from either of these tools in future. These folders will be recreated by StarTeam if you delete them.
