PPM Exception Rule Service running long

Hello Team,  We had been noticing that our Exception Rule Service has been running a few hours longer than usual.  We don't really see any major exception errors in the logs at least from what we can determine, but could this also be related to more of our projects running into task/project exception errors to process?  Could this be helped if some of the task schedule issues are resolved at the project manager-project level? Just checking if anyone can offer any ideas, suggestions at this time.   Thanks so much.  Frank
