Make Clustered Bar chart more customizable

Status : Needs Clarification
  • Ability to include labels on each bar chart in currency format
  • Ability to change the tooltip to currency format
  • Ability to force the y-axis to begin at 0
  • Ability to exclude values from the Display drop down.  i.e. for Clustered Bar chart, we want to exclude the stacked bar chart as an option in the display drop down because it has no meaning
  • Ability to modify the number of lines displayed in the List view portlet. i.e. ‘Showing 1 to 5’ want to be able to show all 7 lines ‘Showing 1 to 7’

What chart are you talking about? Builder portlet charts? Or some of the "hard coded" financial charts like on Portfolio Overview page? "Each bar" is too vague to evaluate the impact/effort.

I guess they are builder portlet charts. When I click on Administrator --> Create portlet --> Create portlet definition --> the list of charts shows up there (e.g. Bar chart, Clustered Bar Chart, Stacked Chart, etc..). The bar chart allows for the option to include the labels directly above each bar - depicted as 'N' when creating the portlet. However, the clustered bar chart does not allow for the ability to include labels directly above each bar

    • Ability to change the tooltip to currency format

Do you mean include the currency code or currency sign along with the number, and format the value accordingly? What if the currency code is not available? In a builder portlet, you can say that a number returned by the datasource is a currency, but in the end it's just a number, so on systems with multiple currencies, we can't know which one to use. You would expect to pick the currency in the chart's option when a field type is currency?

we want to show $ symbol  and thousand separated  values in tooltips. Today chart will display 1000000. We want to be able to format as $1,000,000. In our chart all values plotted in the clustered bar chart are currency

Obviously you're talking about "old" builder portlets here. FYI our current investment is towards the Self-Service portlet, which lets end users pick their chart type. All the requirements you're listing here are very valuable to help us improve it, but keep in mind that it's unlikely that we'll provide these capabilities to the builder portlets as we expect most PPM users to switch to self-service portlet as soon as we can let them use SQL Datasources on it (we're currently working on it).

    • Ability to modify the number of lines displayed in the List view portlet. i.e. ‘Showing 1 to 5’ want to be able to show all 7 lines ‘Showing 1 to 7’

Can't you already decide on the number of values to show in the list in the portlet preferences? Do you mean "by default"? FYI yu don't have this problem on the Self-Service portlet Grid View (introduced in PPM 9.65) as we show all the values, without any pagination. And you can group/filter/pivot/sort all the data this way.

for example, on cluster chart, there is an option to choose “List” from dropdown. By default, it’s showing 5 values and more than 5 values goes to next page. We want flexibility to select more than 5 values on same page so we don’t have to navigate to next page.

  • Absolutely. Hopefully we'll be able to provide most of these capabilities on the self-service portlets in the near-future PPM releases.
