Exporting Test cases (bulk) into an Excel or CSV format

Hi,

We don't have an easy option to export the test cases with test steps, description etc., from Test Plan module to Excel/CSV.

In ALM, we have to write queries to export test cases.

To my knowledge, all the competitive tools such as qTest, Azure DevOps Test Plans etc., have one click button to export test cases.

How do you want to select those cases? From a top level folder or by filtering on field value?

When we have larger 40+ Business users and if they don't participate in Testing then we don't grant access to ALM. Also, my Business users prefer to review the test cases in Excel. If they want to provide any updates then can Highlight in the excel and I will take care of updating in the tool.

If the resources are not dedicated to project, then we don't provide access to ALM. As you know this is a licensed tool. Just for reviewing people ask us to export to excel.

My basic Q is when we have option for Importing then why can't for Exporting?

I understand your motivation, but the question remains: WHY? What do they do with it?

Teach your business customers, how to open Test Details in ALM. There stands everything, even in a useful hierarchy.

When they have run the tests, why shouldn't they report this in ALM, what it is made for? There they can report defects in one click AND connect them to the test instance ;-)

Thanks Pascal for your reply. We as a QA, maintain all the test cases in ALM. However, in few instances, the Business users usually ask us to export the test cases from ALM with detail test steps, description into an excel and provide them.

If I see the competitive tools such as Zephyr Scale add on with JIRA or Azure DevOps-Test Plans module have one click to export whatever fields we want to export but such user friendly option we don't have in ALM.

I must agree with you Pascal but some organizations, well they just love Excel ;-) and they don't tend to know or utilize all the nice test case design features of ALM, some to mention: option to use print screens in steps, test parameters, test case modularity (i.e. call to test), test configurations etc. which can not be covered with Excel neither exported to Excel at all. In case you use the full potential of ALM test case design, you will not continue with flat and simple excel kind of test case design ... Why you have ALM and then not use its powerful features at all? They would really save your time and effort and help to keep test case library in shape.
