CaliberRM database backups with date rotation
Attached to this article is a simple batch file named
CRMBackup.bat that will create date-stamped CaliberRM
backups and will place a similarly-stamped copy of the Versant
database"s current profile.be file in the same directory. The
script places these files in C:\CaliberRM_Backup by default, but
can easily be modified to point to any desired directory.
If a Java Development Kit is installed, the script will also use
the JAR utility to compress (ZIP) the files and then will delete
the originals. This step can be replaced with a call to any other
utility that can perform file compression (LZ*, RAR, BWT, etc.)
from the command-line, such as WinZip, 7-Zip, bzip2, and so forth.
The Versant database backup files compress extremely well
(typically to 5-15% of the original size) so it is highly
recommended that they be compressed to save storage space.
To run the script, simply save the file to a convenient location
on your hard drive and invoke it from a command prompt, from the
Windows "Run" box, or as a Scheduled Task.
