FAQ: What do i need to do to prepare for Datamart Extractions to Oracle?
1. Does the Datamart utility need the thick or thin
This could be a tricky question depending on their meaning of a
"thin" client. For the win32 install the basic or
"thin" client install for Oracle is sufficient without
all of the extra administration options.
There is also a Web/Java client for Oracle that doesn"t
require an install on the client machine, which may be referred to
by some as a thin client. Datamart would be able to find/open a
connection to an Oracle instance inside of the java processes
by design. Though that may be possible, before spending too much
time to research this as an option, due to the nature of datamart,
this would not be as reliable or as fast as the win32 client for
2. What is the schema for the initial database?
At first, the DBA will only need to create a new schema,
typically called DATAMART. When datamart extractor runs, it will
populate the table/class info, stored procedures, indices etc. that
it needs for the extraction process.
3. What are the specific security settings in Oracle for
the user id that the Datamart will use to access the Oracle
When connecting to the database, datamart will populate the schema
for tables, and indices and stored procedures. Additionally moving
forward timestamps will be set for incremental extracts that will
need to be read from the database as well. The Oracle DBA
will be able to assign to an existing role of suitable, or may wish
to create a specific role for a datamart user depending on other
