You can record the time elapsed by starting a timer and immediately going into a loop that will sleep for a fraction of a second before checking if the object exists. If this does not exists it will loop again for a fraction of a second and check for the existance of the object. When the object finally appears you can stop the timer and return the time elapsed. e.g.
