INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The ArcSight release distribution includes self-extracting archive files 
containing installer programs, plus documentation files for this version of the 
ArcSight product. Refer to the ArcSight ESM Installation and 
Configuration Guide for instructions to install and configure ArcSight 
components.

Refer to the release notes file for descriptions of special product 
considerations and known product issues and work-arounds.


CHOOSING THE CORRECT DISTRIBUTION FILES TO DOWNLOAD
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To create a new ArcSight installation, download and run the installer program 
provided for the specific product and platform on which you want to install. 
For example, to install the ArcSight Database component, ArcSight Manager, 
ArcSight Console, and ArcSight Web on Windows, choose the files:

    ArcSight-X.X.X.XXXX.X-DB-Win.exe
    ArcSight-X.X.X.XXXX.X-Manager-Win.exe
    ArcSight-X.X.X.XXXX.X-Web-Win.exe
    ArcSight-X.X.X.XXXX.X-Console-Win.exe

IMPORTANT: The ArcSight Manager and ArcSight Console version numbers must 
match.

Each product component file is accompanied by an MD5 cryptographic hash. 
To verify that the component file was downloaded correctly, verify the MD5 
checksum using an independently generated MD5 checksum of the file. 


INSTALLING ARCSIGHT COMPONENTS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To launch the installer, run or execute the installer file you downloaded. 

IMPORTANT: Refer to the release notes file for any special instructions 
related to first-time installation or upgrade instructions from previous 
ArcSight releases.

FINDING ARCSIGHT DOCUMENTATION
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ESM includes core documentation installed with ESM in HTML as part of the
online help system, and in PDF format. The installed documentation is available
from the Browse Documentation command on the Console Help menu.

The Support Product Download page where you found this document also 
provides PDF copies of the core ESM documentation relevant to this release, 
including installation and upgrade documentation.
