Compiling a large program generates an “Extra segment exceeds 64k” error message.

The 64K limit is a permanent restriction and the solution is to split the program into smaller programs to ensure that the segment descriptor limit does not exceed 64K.  Alternatively you can reduce some of the unique fields you have in the working storage or screen sections.  One other thing is to look in the PROCEDURE DIVISION for reference modification of large fields and change the logic there if possible.
