issue installing RM/COBOL on debian12 32 bit

We have RM installed on an older server and we are trying to update/upgrade the server so it was decided we would stand up a new server and install COBOL from scratch on it. the server its on currently is an old fedora build, and the new one is Debian 12 32bit. we have tried to install on ubuntu 20.4, fedora 40, and now debian 12 32 bit and every time it will run the install.sh file and say

and then just crash out to the terminal. would it be due to it being too old of a version of RM to work on the new system? or is it only good for one install? any ideas????? file systems are ext4.

What version of Rm/COBOL are you attempting to install?

lic file says version 8, key name is rmcobol7.5

That is a very, very old version - literally, decades old. As the output indicates, the crash is in the attempt to identify the Linux version, probably due to getting version information unknown and unanticipated at the turn of the century. (RM/COBOL 7.5 preceded 2000, because it contained new features to handle Y2K issues.)

The most straightforward solution is to license a current RM/COBOL. RM/COBOL has maintained backward compatibility so there should be no issues running the application itself.

yeah if we just copy the files over and run it eventually it will crash and it will refuse to access certain parts of scripting, after installing a 3rd party compiler in addition to this, there doesnt seem to be any issues so far but management is very wary of this method and would like an actual install.

If the company has loss of business insurance, the management will know that computer systems are required to be on currently supported hardware and software in order for the insurance to be in effect.
