GW and Office 2016

I have read - though not tried - you have to install the full Office 2016, which includes Outlook.
How can I make sure my computers still uses GroupWise as mail client?

Until now I always excluded Outlook from my Office 2010 installations.

Thanks

    I haven't tried it with Office 2016, but here are my general 2cents on that...

    Normally if you install GroupWise after having installed Office or Outlook the system will mostly default to using GroupWise as mail client.
    Added to that make sure GroupWise is set as default mail program/app within the Windows settings.

    If GroupWise is already installed before installing or upgrading Office... uninstall and reinstall the GroupWise client after having installed Office. That usually sorts it.

    If there are still issues after that (address book unavailable or other), it could be you need to recreate the Windows user profile.

    Curious to know how you go.

  • Hi William

    Thanks for your suggestions.

    Lucky enough, I just discovered it isn't a problem after all :-)
    I downloaded "Office Professional Plus 2016" from Microsoft's Volume Licensing today, and you are allowed to choose which programmes from the suite to install. Exactly like the previous versions. There might still be issues with other versions of 2016. But since we always buy this large suite, at least my problem is solved.

  • Hi William,

    did you experience any problems like one of our customers?
    GW won't start with different error messages.
    Installation order was like you said, first Office2016, after that GW 2014.02,
    OS is win7 64bit.
    The messages at the Client start are in German but I try to translate :)
    1. The OS is not configured to run this application
    2. No program is assign for the desired action. Install the desired programm or setup up "default programs" if already installed.
    3. Groupwise was not installed correctly, Groupwise modules could not be initialised.

    After the third message the process closes.
    Any suggestions what could cause this? Btw: GW is listed under "Default programms" and setup correctly as application to use for all mail related things.
    The same configuration runs fine if used Office 2010 or 2013...

    Thanks in advance,
    Pascal
  • Hi Pascal

    Give this a try:

    The steps, Office 2016 is in place, GroupWise 2014 then is installed.
    You go to do a GroupWise login, it will crash right after you login.

    The quick fix is to change two registry keys:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\ Windows Messaging
    Subsystem\MSMapiApps]

    You will see these 2 entries.....

    "grpwise.exe"="Microsoft Outlook"
    "gwcma1.dll"="Microsoft Outlook"

    (during install, these keys get removed as GW uninstalls itself, and
    then get added in with the "Microsoft Outlook" value.

    (workaround)
    change these 2 keys need to be "Groupwise"

    "grpwise.exe"="Groupwise"
    "gwcma1.dll"="Groupwise"

    Please let us know how it goes.

    Cheers,
  • Hi Laura,

    didn't get the chance to test this.
    Our customer solved the problem. He installed GW on the blank windows and startet it.
    While running GW he installed office2016. That was enough to fix that problem.

    Thanks,
    Pascal
  • Hi Pascal,
