  • Hi,

I do not know of a way to retain device specific settings while doing a resync. Perhaps tell us more about what is not in sync as that is the bigger issue here. Please also tell us exactly the version and build of GMS installed.

    Cheers,

    Hello,

it happens sometimes that one appointment is missing on the mobile device. Or sometime a appointment exists on the mobile device but not in groupwise.
Exact build of gms is not relevant, we have this since gms exists, so in all version in the last years.

Getting the mobile device in sync with groupwise is only possible to "resync device" or "reinitialize user" like novell describes in his documentation.

"Resynchronizes the mobile device with the Mobility system. Use this option to resolve the following problems:
Synchronization from the Mobility system to a mobile device might occasionally stop, perhaps because abnormal cellular network conditions resulted in dropped synchronization data."

I dont know why this happens. Sometimes it appears once a month with one user, sometimes everything is fine for 2-3 months and then one or two users complains that mobile device is not in sync with groupwise. Mostly only one or two appointments.

But using the "resync device" or "reinitialize user" buttons means, we have to go to the user to help them reconfiguring their devices (checking calendars to sync, making specific calendar to standard, or whatever !).

We have Users who need 100% reliability with their appointments and I cant guarantee this.

FWIW, I have to agree with Davud here. This issue definitely exists ever
since, and has never been solved for good. A non-invasive way to re-sync
everything once in a while would help a lot, but of course that issue
shouldn't even exist to start. But it lies in the nature of duplicating
    (or in reality, triplicating) data...

  • Hi Laura,

okay. But I think this should not just be a enhancement request from a User, this should be a "must have" to use GMS.

The problem I have is, I dont know if I can hold GroupWise in our company. Every "problem" which occures brings up the discussion of a exchange migration. I hope Novell/Microfocus will read this posting here.

  • Hi all

At our site too, we are fighting since several years with sync issues.
Not all the time the same issue, but for users this make no difference,
for them it looks the product is not reliable...
And mostly some peoples of management like CEO is affected.

So my idea is to "trigger" the programmer of the dsapp utility:
May be he is able to backup config user settings, kick re-sync and
restore user settings aftere sync ???
I know this tool is not official supported by MF, but MF-Support use it
    all the time ;-)

Any one know him and give a hint :-) ?

    regards
