DMS - Unable to open and Close Excel docs

Since updating to SP3 :

1. Excel documents, when opened, show as blank in Excel.

Activity Log show as Opened

2. Closing the Doc does not return doc to library
Activity Log shows nothing .... ie - the doc is still open

3. I need to Reset the doc to do any further actions on the Doc

4. After Checking out the Excel Doc, I opened it
Made no changes to the doc
Closed it

GroupWise kicked up an E511 Error during the Close - Unable to REturn
doc to Library

I wasn't in DMS mode while editing the doc !!
  • I have seen something similar, although I can't be sure the steps/causes are exactly the same. Don't think we saw the E511 errors though, but if Excel 'thinks' the integrations are in place opening and closing a checked out document may cause it to return the doc to the library itself if it's feeling a bit screwy, check the doc history to see if it was already returned.

We have been testing upgrading from our 8.0.3 clients to 2012 SP3.
To fix it we firstly checked that Integrations were enabled in the client. Then we had to do a repair/reinstall of the client and everything began working normally, this was with LibreOffice 4.3, Office 2007 32bit and Office 2010 32bit.

    YMMV,
    Mark.
  • I'll do a clean build of the client ....

We are using Office 2003 STD and Ofice 2010 32 bit edition - same issue
    with both versions

Will let you klnow how it goes

  • I stand to be corrected but AFAIK Office 2003 is not supported with GroupWise 2012. If it does happen to work then please feedback as we have some legacy PCs still running Office 2003 that we're keeping on the GW8 client for DMS support for this reason.

    BR,
    Mark.
  • When I open an Excel 2003 file (xlsx format), Excel comes up as Blank
    (no cells, nothing)

The Activity Log shows it as Open

When I close Excel, GW thinks the file is still open
I then do a Doc reset

The environment is : Windows Terminal Server 2003, Office 2003, GW 2012
    SP3

I did a complete removal and re-install of GW 2012 on the Termianl
    Server 2003 before testing

  • Hi Steve,

Does the GW Client show that Integrations are Enabled in Options? IIRC, they were turned off after a 2012 install, even if they were on previously.

    BR,
    Mark.
  • Yes - Integrations are on
    Seems very strange

Word integrations and DMS are working just fine

  • May be something specific to do with Terminal Server, Excel isn't ODMA compliant and all the 'integrations' are done through adding macros in to the core. If Terminal Server is cleaning up those macros so they don't affect other users then the integrations will be missing. I don't use Terminal Server, is there an 'admin' mode for installing software that stores the changes for all users?

Other than that I'm out of ideas, sorry.

  • GW was installed in 'admin' mode ...

The gwappint.inf files all look good

    I'll keep checking

Thing is - this used to work just fine before SP3

  • It's even worse than I thought

On a very rare occasion, opening the same problematic Excel doc works
    .....

But most of the time it does not

Per my previous post, this occurs on both T/S 2003 (with office 2003)
    and T/S 2008 R2 (with Office 2010)

  • I would say this is now SR time I'm afraid.
