Interesting Side Effect GW with GMS and IOS

Found this siude effect with a user whose phone and other ios devices
stopped syncing

He using Gw 2012 SP4 with GMS 2.1

We tried all sort of things to get his phone to re-sync (resync phone,
re-initialize user, gwcheck, rebuilt the phone from scratch, update the
ios, etc).

Interestingly, on the phone itself (we tried a couple of phones), the
phone gets very hot and the battery is depleted very quicky if not
plugged in.

In the end I found that he had dragged an Address book into his mailbox
in GW.
Once that was put back in its proper place all was well.

Amazing the odd things that happen when something is out of place. Thank
you for sharing so that others will very likely benefit.

  • Hi,

Perhaps I can share a tip for future reference? I have had many users accidently drag folders where they shouldn't be. This almost always causing GMS to Phone sync problems/errors. Here's a GWCheck routine that usually sorts it out:

    GWCheck:
Action -> leave default Analyze/Fix Databases.
Activate (only) Contents and Fix problems check boxes.
Database tab -> activate only the User option
Misc tab -> here type a string resfldr (or use alias string folderreset)
    Run.

When syncing stops to a phone I typically run this as my first line of troubleshooting. I run this on the backend and thus do not need to actually "see" the users mailbox.

    Cheers,
  • Thanks for the GWCheck tip

I'll try it the next time sync fails with a user

Good for the first couple times with a particular user, but for a user
who keeps doing this, then you'll have to sit down with them to show
them what they are doing that is messing the sync up so that they know
to stop doing it. Beyond that it becomes a higher than layer 7 on the
    ISO model issue. http://www.konecnyad.ca/andyk/easyiso.htm
