Caching Mode & Terminal Servers

Good morning all,
I have started moving users to Caching mode on our system, (150 users across 3 PO's). This has made a huge difference to our network speed and the stability of GroupWise.
However it presents a problem when users connect to Terminal Servers when working remotely.
Currently I am forcing Caching Mode via GroupWise Admin, but would like to get to the situation where if they are connecting via TS box that GroupWise loads in Online mode and if they are logged into their Work Station that GroupWise loads in Caching mode.
I thought I could do this via start-up switches, so using Zenworks specify if OS = Win 7 then use Caching "C:\Program Files (x86)\Novell\GroupWise\grpwise.exe" /pc and if OS = 2008 then use Online mode. But I having tried I realise I probably need to specify the Caching path.
Has anybody else run into this issue, or have a work around?

Cheers,

Tom.

  • The good and the ugly...

We have workstations and laptops in caching mode and the Terminal Server (Citrix XenApp) sessions in online mode. The good is this way everything is fast. Otherwise the ugly is if you have 2 or more computers and/or sessions in caching mode, then your users end up with duplicates, even triplicates in their archives afterwards.

How are you enforcing Caching mode? via Startup switch? If so what parameters are you using?
  • Not to worry, have just tested the following:

If OS = 2008, 2012 then display Normal GroupWise Icon in ZenWorks
IF OS = 7,8, 8.1 or 10 then display GroupWise Icon in ZenWorks with the following start-up parameter:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Novell\GroupWise\grpwise.exe" /pc-%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Novell\GroupWise\%username%\cache

I can then disable enforcement at domain level and not have to worry about our TS boxes filling up with copies of users GroupWise caches.
