Migrating from local GW passwords to Active Directory

We have a small 200 user GroupWise post office that currently utilizes the internal GroupWise database to store accounts and credentials. We want to use our Active Directory LDAP to centralize authentication and get away from the GroupWise database. I have read about migrating from eDirectory to Active Directory and enabling LDAP synchronization, but was wondering how it works with an existing post office with existing users. Is there a process where it just synchronizes and leaves the user accounts as they are except uses the AD authentication? What about email accounts that are in GW but not in AD?

Thanks in advance!

The LDAP sync mentioned isn't a password sync, but the ability to do more
of the account management in the LDAP source (eDir or AD) for GroupWise
2014 and up. You didn't say what version you are running as that may
    matter here.
One approach that may be all we need here is to set your GW 2014 system
to use LDAP for authentication, but we will need to be sure of your
version to point you at the right details.

Start reading this part of the docs
    https://www.novell.com/documentation/groupwise2014r2/gw2014_guide_admin/da
    ta/adm_mta_config_sync.html

I'm not sure about how users not in the authentication source are handled
as I haven't touched that situation yet, but we can explore once we know
your setup better. And others may pitch in who have been in that
situation even if their LDAP source was eDir as it should be the same
situation as with AD as the source.

  • Hi,

GroupWise users who are not associated with LDAP users will authenticate using their GroupWise password.

    Cheers,
