GW Issues

Good day,

I was just made aware of a slightly odd issue. We have a user reporting that their mailbox is currently 25113 MB (25 GB) in size. The IT staff here has gone through the users mailbox and confirmed that they in reality have less than 30 messages in their mailbox, and with folders included have nothing close to that size. Customer has run checks on this mailbox, which I believe included statistics, and they are just trying to explain what might have this mailbox showing such a high number.

If it is a bug or other anomaly they are alright with that, as currently they are planning on moving towards GroupWise 2012.

Thank you,

DS

  • Hi DS,

Has GWCheck, from ConsoleOne, been run with the "Reset User Disk Space Totals" option selected?

    Let us know.

    Cheers,

There are more than one place that sort of number can be gotten from,
so which one was this seen? And what places was this being compared to?
Did this user have a whole lot of mail flow through

On-line vs caching mode can be very different and are worth comparing
    if applicable.

How big are those messages in their mailbox? (Sort by size)
Sent Items? Trash bin? Folders do count as well.

And of course Laura's suggestion make sort things out.

  • Good Day Laura,

Currently asking if that step was done with the checks that were performed against that user mailbox. During the discussions I had with the engineer I unfortunately did not make that part of notes.

    Will let you know,

  • Good day Andy,

as far as I understand this user does not have a great deal of mail flowing through their mailbox, no more so than any other standard user. When in C1 using the GroupWise view - I have added the tab for Current Mailbox Size (MB), and this is where I'm seeing the value 25113.

I believe that they are using online mode, not many users have activated caching mode.

Unfortunately I don't know size of messages. I don't have direct access to the troubleshooting, I'm getting this through their support engineer.

    Currently checking on Laura's suggestion.

    Thank you,

    DS

Ahh, I never noticed that ability to add those columns. Very useful and
will have to add that to my big mail management page for the twilight
    years of C1 use.

Now that I know where that number is from, this isn't an issue. But if
you play with any caching mode yourself, do compare what Tools, Check
Mailbox Size... shows as there are situations where they can be different.

I've been in that situation myself. All you can do is just keep feeding
the questions and prod to get real answers. Kind of like helping here in
    the forums some times ;)

  • Good day Laura,

Sat down today and discussed this with the customer, they are going to be proceeding forward with this step once they are able to confirm that the user is out of their mail box.

  • Hi DS

Just note that this GWCheck routine can be run "live" - the customer does not need to logout - I hope that this assists in some small way :)

    Cheers,
