Test GW 2014 system on unrouted network

Running on Windows 2012r2. I have a server running mta's and post offices. I also have a server running a GWIA in its own domain. This system cannot talk to any other servers and is running on VM's. The data from my live GW 2012 system was cloned and attached to the appropriate servers. I installed GW 2012 on the server using the data volumes to install to. It worked great. The system came up and users had all the email in their accounts that was there at the clone point. I upgraded the servers running the post offices to GW 2014. This went well. Email moves around in the system as it should. I then installed the GW 2012 gwia on the other server using cloned data. I had to make ip address changes in the whole system, but all works. I have double checked and triple checked the links and all seems good. The GWIA accepts email when I try to force an email to route out and back into the system. I am receiving a 450 host down when it tries to find the post office server. I have made sure all firewalls are off. DNS entries have been checked multiple times. I am overlooking something. Any help will be appreciated.

  • Hi Bill,

    Perhaps, just as a test, edit the gwia.cfg and define the IP addresses in there. You are looking for this section:

    ;----------------------------------------------------------------------
    ; Specifies the IP address that the Internet Agent will listen for all
    ; enabled protocols. This switch will tell the Internet Agent to only
    ; bind to the specified address.
    ;----------------------------------------------------------------------
    ;--ip ipaddress
    ;
    ;----------------------------------------------------------------------
    ; Specifies the IP address (or hostname) and port of a GroupWise POA that
    ; the Internet Agent can use to resolve IP addresses of other post
    ; offices in the system.
    ;----------------------------------------------------------------------
    ;--ipa ipaddress
    ;
    ;--ipp port

    I've found that sometime when IP's change the agents don't register the change as they can't find each other and editing this file fixes the problem.

    Please let us know how it goes.

    Cheers,
  • I have had to back off of this for awhile and am getting back to it. I had to recreate my test VM and have reinstalled the gw2012 mta for the GWIA server. It is now looking for the live system ip addresses and can't seem to find where to reroute to the test ip.

  • Hi Bill,

    Have you checked your Link Configuration?

    Please let us know.

    Cheers,
  • The link is correct. I think the problem may be that we cloned the data volume and installed to a VM and I am trying to install the mta and GWIA for testing and it is picking up the information from the live system. In the tcp/ip Settings in the MTA log it shows the max number of inbound connections, then an ip address. This ip address is from the live system and I can't find the entry in the *.mta file to override it. I think I may just need the proper syntax for that entry.

    I am installing GW2012 first, then upgrading to GW2014 to mimic what I have to do to the live system.

    Thanks.
