IMAP leave mail on Server

I've been experimenting with IMAP settings. I'm looking for a definitive answer to the tick box option for the Copy messages to GroupWise Option. Basically I want to see messages from an IMAP account in GroupWise but I don't want them downloaded off of the IMAP server.

Where are you seeing this option? It doesn't ring a bell to me and I can't find it in
my digging in any of the server side IMAP config.

The very nature of IMAP is to sync a copy from the server to the IMAP client. This
syncing includes deletes, so if it is deleted at the IMAP client, it will typically be
removed unless the client has the provision to not delete on the server and it is
configured as such. Ex BlackBerry has this and can ask per message, Thunderbird
doesn't appear to have such an option.

Just to confirm, you are talking about GroupWise as the IMAP server with 365 as the
client? If not please clarify what you are attempting to do.

  • 365 is the IMAP server and GW is the client.

"The Copy messages into GroupWise" is on the Advanced TAB when you set up the IMAP in the GW client.

That box determines if IMAP messages will eb stored only locally in your
GW client, or if they will also be uploaded to your Groupwise mailbox on
    your groupwise server.

Above said, that setting is entirely unrelated to what happens on the
IMAP Mailbox. You can configure the GW client to only download headers,
or the full message, but headers is the bare minimum. You cannot make it
not store anything locally at all.
