Domain name problem in CLient

I made a new 2012 Post Office.

Unfortunately the new address for my client is like this:

john.mypostoffice.mynewdomain

it was:

john.mypostoffice.originaldomain

I cannot seem to restore the old mail from a local backup to the new
server. So I wanted to just leave people running on the old caching mailbox.

However the difference in naming schemes means that it will not log in.

Can I change the email address at the caching mailbox level?

Any thoughts why a local backup will not restore? It should be original
mailbox name independent...

Hopefully as part of a GW 2012 system, not adding to a older system or you
    will have 'some' pain.

That sounds like you've also added in a new domain to the picture. And looks
like you moved or recreated the user(s) to/at the new PO. Please clarify this
important detail, including if the FID is still the same.

What exactly are you restoring? A file level restore of the old Post Office?
    Something else?

Names have power and deep meaning. IT is just the latest implementation of
    that age old truism.

Not that I am aware of, it is an all or nothing.

Why do you believe that it will not be such name dependant.
