Datasynchronizer 1.2.5 / Resources / Read only access ?

Hello.

I am glad that theres now a way to have resources synced to the iPhone!
Great.

Is there a way to share a resource (calendar) to an iPhone in viewing only
mode? I want some users just to see dates, but not to modify/delete them?

Thanks,
Michael

  • Hi Michael
Unfortunately no as there is no such concept in activesync nor any client to handle something "read only". The only thing you can do is to disable the bi-directional sync in the GroupWise user settings page of the mobility webadmin.
However users will still be able to edit on the calendar (since the client will allow it) but we will not sync it back.
Whats your reason for having a read only calendar ?

    Thx, Kai
  • Hi Kai.

    Thank you for your answer.

We use resources for different cars to plan their orders and locations. Not
everybody who needs to see where the car is is also allowed to plan the cars
    for new orders etc.
With the proxy in the GW client we can set different access levels for the
cars and users who needs access. This would be great to have on a
iphone/ipad. But I can see that this is not easy if there is no concept for
    this in activesync.

    Regards,
    Michael

  • We too were glad to see this feature but we cannot use it unless we can control the rights. I got my hopes up when I read this in the documentation:

You can add resources to your Synchronizer system as if they are users. GroupWise users with rights to the synchronized resource mailboxes can then configure their mobile devices to log in to resource mailboxes just as they can log in to their own mailboxes. This enables GroupWise users to monitor the contents of resource mailboxes from their mobile devices.

This seems to indicate the access is based on "rights" assigned to the user, but in reality I guess its a misleading way of saying "users with the password can then configure..." which wont work for us.
