Drivers don't upload to RMS

I'm trying to upload a driver (for an HP Laserjet CP3505 color printer).
When I "add from file" and browse to the file, everything appears to
upload ok. When I click "apply" and go to a printer and try to add
that driver to the printer, the driver never shows up.

Any suggestions what could be causing this?

Thanks:)

    Using iManager or NWadmin32?

  • wow! I think your submit button went on the fritz=P~

This was using iManager. It only happens with one driver, the HP color
laserjet cp3505 too. I can add other drivers without a problem.

Is there a way of looking in the ndps folder on the server and
determine if there's some driver still there from previous cp3505
driver? I deleted the CP3505 driver and attempted to install it again
because a user complained that he was getting an error. I don't
remember that error now off hand, but it was a "file not found" error.

    Thanks:)

OK. Have you tried Tommy Mikkelsen's PDRvGen from Cool Solutions?

  • I have the same issue and have ruled out everything but the driver too.
    Using iManager 2.6.

I have tried different Brokers, different PCL versions (5 and 6), adding
to either XP or 2000 list, tried the PRNGenerator tool, and it is exactly
as said, the driver takes forever to load and typically appears to time
out but the driver actually shows up in the Broker and a new driver folder
is created on the server in the RESDIR source folder but when trying to
assign to a printer and it does not show up in the list!! Restarting the
services (Broker, Print Manager) doesn't help either.

It appears on Novell as a tested approved printer so this should not be
happening. I am at a loss as to how to deal with this printer, now
looking at testing a universal driver but don't want to lose functionality.

  • OK. And it works for other drivers? What kind of printer/driver is
    this?

  • As noted in swilla initial submission ..

    HP Laserjet CP3505 color printer.

  • Sorry for the delay. Here is what Novell said:

HP's site was being quite stingy this morning but I
finally was able to get both the PCL5 and PCL6 drivers. My server is
    NW65SP7 running a BROKER.NLM version 3.00.11 and dated Aug 26, 2005.
The manager is v3.02.03 and dated Sept 14, 2007. I am using iManager
2.7. Both drivers take an unusually long time to load but they do
indeed load just fine in this configuration.

If this guy is still running SP6 make sure he has the most recent post
-SP6 NDPS patch installed. Also can he try iManager 2.7 on one server
and see if it is just a problem with 2.6? I don't have a server
running iMan 2.6 at the moment.

  • I haven't tested as suggested but wanted to point out again that it does
appear to load to the Broker just fine for me too (after a long wait). It
is not at this point that there is an issue. When you continue on and try
to add the driver within a printer object the print driver does not show
in the list (in iManager). Just strange.

I would ask that the test he did on sp7 be taken further to the point of
actually trying to use the driver, it doesn't appear this was done.

    Thanks

    Here is what Novell said:

On my SP7 / iManager 2.7 server the driver is still in the broker so I
created a printer and assigned the driver to the printer. This took
just seconds. First I assigned the PCL5 driver and then the PCL6. I
obviously can't print to that printer as I don't have one but so far,
at least, that part looks ok. HP's site is being a pita this morning
and that driver is on my laptop which is away visiting the doctor. If
I can get the driver again, I will try it on my sp6 / iMan 2.6 server
    and see what I get

  • I posted yesterday but must have pressed a wrong key cause I don't see it
    ... trying again.

If you were able to get the driver to add to a printer then you got past
where I had problems. Would agree that iManager 2.6 may be part of the
issue for this printer ... ughh.

That said, I've been using an alternate HP driver with no user complaints
so will likely continue to do so until we gracefully move to iManager 2.7,
plug-ins are too much of a headache to think about it at this time.

    Thanks for your help.
