All iPrint Driver Profiles not displayed?

OES11 Linux, when creating a driver profile it fails and says there is already one with the same name. However there is not one listed. There are a couple of profiles that were previously created that are listed and can be modified. Has anyone encountered this?

  • I applied the July maintenance patches to my OES11 iPrint server last night (I was previously on the May patches), and now every one of my Windows 7 64-bit profiles are not displaying or installing (the few 32-bit ones are still active). Interesting though, I cannot re-create the profiles as iPrint says the name already exists and padbtxt.xml still has them all listed correctly which means they are still present in the print manager database.

    it seems a broken iprint database.

    Got following hint from novell, which could help:

    The file reveals that padbtxt.xml contains the correct profiles so it looks like a problem with the database. i'd like to suggest to follow this steps to fix the issue:

    1. Determine if you can successfully authenticate using the iprntman tool:

    a. iprntman psm -l
    b. provide the admin eDirectory username (no dots, no context)
    c. provide the admin eDirectory password

    If the authentication is successful, then you can proceed with the steps below. If the authentication fails, do not continue. TID 3897348 may be helpful in resolving the authentication problem.

    2. Unload the Print Manager

    rcnovell-ipsmd stop

    Ensure the Print Manager is unloaded by typing:

    ps -ef | grep ipsmd
    only the grep command should be returned. If more than the grep line is returned, kill the ipsmd process.

    3. Backup the Print Manager directory and conf file
    Copy the psmdb.dat and padbtxt.xml to a safe location:

    cp /var/opt/novell/iprint/[PSM].[OU]..psm/psmdb.dat /tmp/psmdb.dat
    cp /var/opt/novell/iprint/[PSM].[OU]..psm/padbtxt.xml /tmp/padbtxt.xml

    4. Load the Print Manager with a new database.

    # cd /opt/novell/iprint/bin
    # ./ipsmd -b

    5. Create the Printer Agent objects to the new psmdb.dat

    # rcnovell-ipsmd stop
    # /opt/novell/iprint/bin/ipsmd -x /tmp/padbtxt.xml

    6. Restart Print Manager

    # rcnovell-ipsmd start

    Check that now the win7 x64 profiles are available in iManager
