Setting up workstation printers using iPrint

When I setup workstation printers using iPrint, everything is fine untill I restart the workstation. After restarting the workstation the printer is no longer there, then I have to reinstall it. How to I get this printer to stay so I do not have to reinstall it everytime I restart the workstation?
  • Have you by any chance customized your iprint.ini file to allow user
    printers or session printers?

  • No, and I just install the newest patch for iPrint that I could find and that did not fix the problem. Everytime I restart the workstation I have to reinstall the printer.
  • Well, the symptonms you describe do exactly sound like you install your
pritner as a session printer (or possible as a user printer). This is a
special feature in iPrint that allows pritners to be installed just until
the next reboot or just specific to a certain user and not for other users
on the same computer. While this functionality is above all esential to
Servers running terminal services, it also works on workstations.
I suggest you post your server's iprint.ini so that we can see for sure
that user or session printers are not configured in iprint.ini

  • I have tyies install the printer as ADMIN but I have the same problem. I have 16 differdnt printers, and have tried all of the and they all disapear not just at restart but all you have to do is logout and when you login all the printer are gone.
  • What kind of workstation OS is this? Do all of your pritners reside on the
    same server?

  • I only have one server, and all workstations are Windows XP. I have setup the client in iPrinter, and the printer stay on the workstations, but all 16 printer will show up on every workstation. This will not work in my setup, I would like to setup default printer on my workstations. This is a school and I do not want everyone to have access to all the printer and I can not setup printer for each of the 600 users. I need to be able to setup a printer on the workstation.
