Backing up NSS and eDir

Does anybody have a recommendation for a third party product that supports backing up NSS volumes (files and trustee rights) and eDirectory? We're currently using Commvault, but Commvault has deprecated support for NSS and eDir in the latest version (11 SP12). Our NSS file server is still running an older version of the client (10 SP15) to so we can continue backing up NSS and eDir, but Commvault will not support clients that are older than 2 versions back. Does anybody a recommendation for a different product, ideally something that also supports Linux/Windows in general along with MS SQL because we'd like to standardize on one product. Thanks.
  • Have you checked SEP Sesam? I know several organizations that use it and
think it is great. I know of others using Veeam and while I have heard it
works I have also heard it is slow, but slow and working is better than
    not-working at all.

  • All have my back-up person have a look at SEP. Thanks for the recommendation.
  • Just a few more ideas if you are still looking, though not as integrated as SEP, but nowhere near the price either.

    For eDirectory
    - you can script a dump each night then just backup as usual.

For files, I have used rsnapshot to backup NSS. I'm soon to have a test of Veeam agent for linux (server edition), to backup to removable external media.
With these you'll have to dump your trustees to disk first.
  • Does SEP Windows version do backups of Novell volumes from a Windows computer. (when the volumes are mapped as Windows drives) ?
Or how to do backups of Novell volumes using SEP?
  • You don't need any mapped drives, neither via CIFS nor NCP. If you'd need anything like this it wouldn't be a backup but rather some sort of file copy. SEP Sesam does TSA-based backups of NSS volumes on OES Linux directly. If it's about NetWare you'd need a Linux-based datamover running smdr somewhere else.
