There are many things to consider including:
The source and destination server operating systems.
The source and destination server filesystems.
The type of files you want to copy.
In fact, when I was faced with this same task, I found there was no simple answer so I gathered together all the relevant details and wrote a Cool Solution dealing with this very subject.
The most problematic combination is trying to copy GroupWise files from a NetWare server so that was the focus of the article but there is lots of information and ideas dealing with Linux and OES.
