What is the best backup strategies for eDirectory

Hi

Whe have a system with 5 NW65SP8 servers and we want to migrate all our services to OES11.
We have iPrint, Novell Cluster Services, Identity Manager bundle 3.5.1 to sync with Active Directory, NSS, CIFS, Secure Login.
We will not use ID transfers nor Rolling Cluster.
Before we introduce the first OES11 servere in the three we want to backup eDirectory to be able to revert if some problem will arise.

What is the best way to do this ?

Thanks,

Viki

  • On NetWare run the following on all servers at the same time during a
    maintenance window:

    dsrepair -rc

This will take down eDir, grab a copy of the DIB, and then start it up
again. Backing up the resulting file is trivial but if you want to
restore you must restore carefully (typically with Support on the phone).

The right way to backup eDir is to use dsbk, which is a lot more work, but
lets you do the full DIB restore safely and just following the documentation.

For OES eDir DR, dsbk is the tool indeed. As added note: we add a daily ndsbackup to that as well, as that enables you to do selective object restore vs having to restore the full directory.
