If you have a NetWare 5.x, NetWare 6.0, or NetWare 6.5 sp6 or earlier, you have a big problem when it comes to migration--namely, miggui only supports NetWare 6.5 sp7 and later.
If you find yourself in this situation, this is the time to evaluate what you have to migrate. If you are only doing a data migration, meaning that you only have data to migrate and not services like iPrint, DHCP, or DNS, then there is a chance that you can simplify the migration and use a lower level tool to do the migration. You could do the data migration with nbackup.
Nbackup is provided with OES2 SP2 (and earlier versions) on Linux. It is manually configurable and very flexible. One thing to note, however, is that nbackup uses the SMS architecture on both the NetWare and the Linux servers. You need the latest SMS files on both servers to avoid any issues on the SMS level.
So, For NetWare, there is a patch named TSA5UPXX.EXE. The patch can be downloaded from support.novell.com from the download menu. Here XX stands for a number that represents the latest release of the patch. The latest patch as of this writing is TSA5UP24.EXE. Download this patch and run it to self extract the files.
On the Linux side, update to the latest service pack and synchronize with the latest channel. Make sure that the server is up to date.
Now you can use nbackup to copy the data files from the NetWare server to the Linux server. Run the following command from the target Linux server terminal window.
/opt/novell/sms/bin/nbackup -cF -U admin.novell -P <password> -R <remote IP> VOL1:users | /opt/novell/sms/bin/nbackup -xvF -U "root" -P<password> -r "vol1:users /media/nss/VOL1/"
**** VOL1:users is the volume and path on the NetWare Server
**** vol1:users /media/nss/VOL1 is the way to specify where the data is being transferred.
