RM port 5950 not opening on Windows Servers with Update 2

We've been bringing out Windows Servers onto Zenworks to make management easier. The servers I installed when we were running Update 1 I can manage fine, the two I've installed since upgrading to update 2 I can not get remote management working, one is 2012 R2 and the other is 2016.

The service is running but port 5950 is not listening according to netstat, local debug log doesn't show anything interesting. I've disabled the firewall and restarted the servers but still the same.

Anyone seen anything like this before? The Update 1 and Update 2 servers are in the same folder with the same policy assignments for remote management.

Thanks
  • Just noticed in eventviewer that nzrWinvnc is crashing every time the services is launched, yet some how service monitor isn't noticing.

I've uploaded the events from both the 2012r2 and 2016 box at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UEdUnBaC0Zr1g6PDe0xQ8rfPE1-jWdpB/view?usp=sharing

    Thanks
  • In the Agent Properties of that device in the ZCC, Set the "RM" Spoke to Uninstalled" and refresh.
There will probably be a prompt to reboot but I believe you can ignore that.
Then set spoke back to installed and refresh.

    See if that helps.........
  • Hi Craig,

Sadly no go, it didn't ask for a reboot but did one anyway. Also confirmed it is not limited to servers as I had updated my own laptop to Update 2 and I'm getting the same crash message in eventviewer and port not opened behaviour. Just noticed it is nzrWinVNCapp that is crashing, not nzrWinVNC, which explains why service manager doesn't notice.

Something I've noticed is that the optimization driver status is showing as disabled. I've checked a Win10 devices still running U1 as well as a 2016 and 2012 R2 server and it was disabled there as well, however remote management is working fine on those devices with U1. Not sure if that is expected behaviour with those OSes or not. Tried setting the driver to disabled on one machine to see if it could have been a case of the driver causing the crash but there was no change.

I enabled debugging as per https://support.novell.com/Platform/Publishing/989/3418069_f.1.html and this is the output of winvnc.log on a service start, nothing to me seems out of place, no obvious crash message.

    Thanks
  • I've seen this issue reported by 2 customers.
One customer fixed by reinstalling the RM Spoke as I initially suggested.
The 2nd the issue appears to be different, which may be your case.

I would open an SR then and reference Defect#1084176
(Note: I would suspect MOST customers would not see this issue, based on initial analysis)

The customer on that ticket found a workaround ( Not Officially Sanctioned for obvious Reasons...)
    Replacing all files:
    %ZENWORKS_HOME%\bin\nzr*
    with files from 17.1 agent.
