FDE SSD performance

Hi,

is there any way to boost the performance with FDE activated on SSD?
DELL Latitude E6520 with Samsung EVO 860 SSD (550 MByte/s read / 530 MByte/s write) without FDE and with FDE activated ~(110 MByte/s read / 100 MByte/s write)
It's 5 times slower, encryption impacts the performance that's clear, but 5 times slower is really bad value??

Our clients are on ZCM 17.4, AHCI enabled

  • I've never really noticed any significant performance impact once the drive is encrpyted....
    Did you make sure to wait until the drive was fully encrpyted to test?

    "Encrypt only the used sectors of the drive" is checked by default...not sure if encrypting empty sectors would cause an impact.
    Is the a UEFI or BIOS System....BIOS Systems may use non-default algorithms that are less efficient than AES-256....i've never tested any other algorithms.

    Also many SSD Drives can see a significant drop in performance as they fill, not sure if the EVO 860 suffers from this...but that could sway your numbers.
