catalina.out is empty in 4.4.0.3

I recently upgraded our SSPR installs to 4.4.0.3 and I have noticed that catalina.out is always empty. Logs seem to be directly written to catalina.out.date. 

Is there a reason for this? How is this configured?

    How do you start it?

    If you run it as root stating the tomcat startup.sh I have experienced this.

    Starting as the novlua user or whatever name that account has with the normal service, I think it is the netiq-tomcat.service I get it to write to catalina.out

     

    In my case I run sspr on the same server as IDM Applications so that might be diffrent.
