4 Must Do Activities at Global AppSec – Washington DC

by   in Cybersecurity

We’re only a couple weeks away from one of the best Application Security conferences of the year, Global AppSec by the OWASP Foundation, which will take place at the Marriott Marquis Washington DC on Oct 30- Nov 3. With five days of activities taking place this year, it’s easy to get overwhelmed on where to spend your timea. To make things easier for you, here is a list of four activities you need to have as part of your schedule to be sure you get the most out of your conference.

#1 – Network

Just embrace it my friend! It’s half the reason you’re there right? When you spot networking events or groups of people engrossed in lively conversations, dive right in. Connect with your fellow industry comrades and share your challenges and triumphs. I’ve never attended a conference where I haven’t encountered anyone unwilling to swap information or forge lasting connections. Networking is powerful, and if we have the right mindset, it can also be fun and exciting. And who knows, it might just open the doors to a marvellous new opportunity!

#2 – Visit the Expo Hall

Some people feel like expo halls are just for companies trying to sell you stuff.
Which is true.
But the stuff they’re selling is often the solution to the problems your organization is facing! (aka security) It’s also an amazing time to speak to some of the experts behind the leading software you either use or are looking to buy.
Ask questions, ask for demos, share your problems. These are fantastic opportunities for you to have the full attention of some really smart people. But, if you are only going to visit one booth during the entire show, make sure it’s the OpenText Fortify Booth at D02!

#3 – Join the “Everything-as-Code: Pushing the boundaries of SAST” Session

This session by Frans van Buul is going to be legendary!

Okay, maybe we’re a little biased, but attending this session will give you a refresher of existing SAST technology as well as an awareness of its limitations, an introduction to Bicep and Solidity security, and some things to look for in SAST solutions over the coming years.

As the industry embraces the "everything as code" paradigm, such as infrastructure, contracts, and circuits being represented as code, there is a growing need to extend SAST capabilities to these new domains.

#4 – The Keynotes

This year's lineup promises to be good.

Hear from four exceptional keynote speakers who bring unique perspectives and expertise in the field of cybersecurity. Jackie Singh, a renowned security consultant, has a diverse background that includes military service and working on significant cybersecurity projects. Brook S.E. Schoenfield, an accomplished author and security architect, will share insights on securing systems and improving software security practices. Alyssa Miller, a lifelong hacker and CISO, will discuss her journey in the industry and passion as an advocate for “hacking” and cybersecurity careers. Lisa Plaggemier, an executive director at the National Cybersecurity Alliance, will provide valuable insights on security awareness and education.

There you have it! Four very simple things you can do while attending the Global AppSec conference this year to get the most out of the event.

ALSO! Back by popular demand are our customized Graffiti water bottles! (Reason #2A - can’t forget about the SWAG!).

So if you are coming to DC this year, be sure to visit Fortify Booth D02 and talk to our experts and learn about Fortify, our end to end application security solution that can help you start testing your apps in a single day.
