In my previous blog, Improving Sustainability with the Privacy by Design Approach, we discussed what sustainability is and how privacy by design can help organizations with carbon-friendly IT strategies. In this blog, we will focus on the value propositions of the OpenText Voltage products and solutions, and how it supports organizations in their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and sustainability journey.
What is OpenText’s Contribution to ESG?
The ESG framework contributes to economic development while improving the quality of life for our workforce and their families, local communities, and society. It also seeks to align the success of these groups to build a successful and sustainable business for our stakeholders, ultimately leading to value creation for all groups.
As part of the global data center project at OpenText, Rafi Levy, director of service operations and hosting services within the Product Service Delivery Center (PSDC), mentioned that “Through this consolidation, we create more efficient IT architectures, reduce our costs, and significantly reduce our environmental impact through lower energy consumption. Ultimately, we want to enhance our operations to provide maximum customer flexibility.” He also mentioned, “We reduced our energy consumption by 510 KW and saved $3 million in annual rent and energy costs. This further strengthens our commitment to reducing our environmental impact.”
What Is the Value Proposition of Voltage in Building Sustainable Applications?
We recognize that ESG is an area of growing importance to our customers, partners, shareholders, governments, employees, communities, and more broadly, to society. As a company, we seek to respond to these changes responsibly and respectfully. OpenText creates and contributes value through transparency and considering the impact of our business decisions.
The Voltage suite of products and solutions can deliver data discovery across structured and unstructured data, providing a single pane of glass view across structured and unstructured data. Voltage can create test data management solutions to build new applications faster by not using sensitive customer data and can retire applications that are not using legacy data, archive old data, and provide guidelines for data access governance.
Voltage aligns with privacy-by-design and sustainability approaches and ISO 31700 and ISO 27701 standards for protecting data while in use. Voltage SecureData ensures that data privacy is preserved and that data is continuously protected inside the production application or in a cloud analytics platform (e.g., Snowflake, Google Cloud Platform) where data is being analyzed and evaluated.
For example, when data is being analyzed to extract business contexts, data needs to be encrypted for further processing using homomorphic techniques, which use intensive computational techniques on data. When the data is encrypted using format-preserved encryption methods, it uses the same computation as plain text data for analysis, which reduces companies’ CO2 footprint.
Conclusion
Voltage products and solutions facilitate organizations to plan for their sustainable ESG initiatives by applying its privacy-by-design approach, which ties data in their top-down approach to business initiatives. Our white paper on how we support carbon-friendly ICT strategies shows how we enable our customers and partners to reduce their energy consumption, aid in application reduction, and therefore save costs. This brochure further drills down by showing how Voltage supports carbon-friendly strategies.
