Unable to load NPKIAPI - library could not be found

This is an old error, which I believe last cropped up in Designer 4.0

OS: Windows 10
Designer: 4.5.3

Trying to create eDir2eDir certificates

Unable to load NPKIAPI - library could not be found

com.novell.security.japi.pki.NPKIAPI.loadLibrary(NPKIAPI.java:1684)
com.novell.security.japi.pki.NPKIAPI.initialize(NPKIAPI.java:5997)
com.novell.security.japi.pki.NPKIAPI.<init>(NPKIAPI.java:1741)
com.novell.idm.kmo.DesignerPKIAPI.<init>(DesignerPKIAPI.java:560)

com.novell.idm.kmo.NDS2NDSCertificateBuilder.buildPKIAPIForTree1(NDS2NDS
CertificateBuilder.java:110)

com.novell.idm.kmo.NDS2NDSCertificateBuilder.start(NDS2NDSCertificateBui
lder.java:86)
com.novell.idm.kmo.SSLUtil$1.run(SSLUtil.java:739)

org.eclipse.jface.operation.ModalContext$ModalContextThread.run(ModalCon
text.java:122)

The old solution was to install Visual C 2005 redists
Anyone if that fix is still correct?

An update, I installed a bunch of the Visual C 2005 redistributables
    (VC 2005 and VC 2005 SP1) in x86 and x64 versions.
Rebooted, tried again with Designer - no luck, same error.

Anyone else manage to use the create eDir2eDir certificates feature in
    latest Designer on Windows??

I have used iManager to create the necessary certificates, but somewhat
irritated that this is broken again.

  • Bringing old thread back to life here, but it's now 2020, and Designer 4.7 on Win10 is doing the same old thing.

Worked around it with iManager's certificate creation, but that seems like something I shouldn't have to do. Any hints on figuring out what this is actually complaining about?
