User Application upgrade steps from 4.0.2 to 4.5

Hello,

We're currently facing a User Application upgrade from version 4.0.2 to
4.5. User Application is currently running on Jboss (linux). First off,
I couldn't find any official documentation regarding this procedure for
4.5. While trying to install from IDM's .iso, when prompted to input the
full path of the java JVM, I get the following error and can't surpass
it:

Incorrect Java jre chosen
-------------------------

For the JBoss Application server, you must use the Oracle Corportaion
jre

Is it possible that there's no migration process defined? Should this be
faced as a regular UserApp installation, where previous JBoss
implementation is to be deprecated in favor of a new tomcat deployment
keeping the same database?

Thanks for your insights.

Rodrigo.

    Greetings,
There is information in the guides. When you upgrade from a prior
version, you will only keep the database data and the UAD. Everything
else is uninstall/removed/deleted. We do not support an in place upgrade.

Please be aware that with the 4.5 we no longer support the Community
Edition of JBoss. If you are going to stay with JBoss, then it must be
    JBoss EAP 5.2

I'll let Steve chime in here also, but the general approach is that you need to reinstall the JEE App Server from scratch when you go to a new IDM version.

You only need to retain two things:

    1. The UserApp driver in eDirectory (this gets incrementally upgraded)
    2. The database (for some scenarios you can zap this also)

So to answer your question, you need to install a supported JEE app server (for example Tomcat which is bundled on the ISO). You cannot upgrade the existing JBOSS.
If you want to stay with JBOSS you should pony up a supported version of JBOSS.
I don't believe the free/community edition of JBOSS (which was bundled with 4.0.2) is an option any longer.

  • Hi,

it would be helpful, if you could provide more information what you are
    trying to do.

why do you want to export the postgre database? Are you moving to
another database system like oracle or ms sql? what is your goal?

    Regards

    Zisis

    Greetings,
The normal way to accomplish this is to utilize pg_dump:

    pg_dump -U %user% -n %schema-name% -name% > %outfile%.sql
